2、 football. the name meizhou comes from the mei river and plum blossom (mei). meizhou is rich in tourism resources. there are tourism resources such as historic and cultural sites constructed during the tang dynasty, former residences of famous figures, natural scenery of all kinds, and unique hakka

8、?iv. tourist attractions of meizhou1. lingguang temple2. the qianfo towerthe qianfo tower (or the thousand-buddha pagoda), which was set up in 965 ad, is located on the top of dadong rock mountain in the east of meizhou. it has a long history of more than 1000 years and it enjoys the reputation of “

9、one of the famous 108 views in south guangdong”. it is listed as the cultural preservation relic of guangdong as well as a famous buddhist mecca of guangdong. the qianfo tower is a thousand-year-old seven-storied square pagoda with a height of 4.2 ms. there are 250 big or small iron josses setting o

10、n each side of the pagoda, in total 1000 pieces. thus the pagoda got its name as “ the thousand-buddha pagoda”. the pagoda has many treasures, such as the south han dynasty ancient iron tower at the first floor, the 1000 lapidarist buddha set on the walls of the tower form the second floor to the ei

11、ghth floor, and the 1000 golden buddha on the ninth floor. there are 3000 buddha in total in the tower, which is the reason the tower got its name as “the three-thousand buddha tower”. a new hall was added on the underground of this pagoda. all kinds of lifelike joss are displayed here, including ch

12、inas top joss pilushuna beset with 20,000 germs. right on both sides of the hall is the famous fresco of twenty-four immortals.the pagoda faces the meijiang river at the front and mountains at the back. there is also a culture-display corridor winding up to a mountain, which is a good combination of

13、 ancient architecture and modern art. 3. renjinglu the “renjinglu” is the former residence of huang zunxian, who was a patriotic poet, diplomat of great clat and excellent educator in the late qing dynasty. the derivation of the “renjinglu” was a poem written by tao yuanming, a famous chinese poet i

14、n tang dynasty. designed by huang zunxian himself, the house was set up in 1884. it is a half-timbered garden-type structure very reasonably constructed. it was listed as the key cultural preservation relic of guangdong. the three characters of “renjinglu” on the gate of the house was written by a f

15、amous japanese calligrapher and sinologist da yu cheng lai wen, who is also a good friend of huang. entering into the residence, you will see the white marble bust of huang zunxian. decorated with flowerbeds, rockeries and a fish pond, the house consists of the seven-character corridor, the five-ste

16、p pavilion, the ten-step pavilion, the wohong pavilion, the resting pavilion and so on. the narrow path zigzags towards deep in the garden, with beautiful flowers and thick trees at both sides. the small library houses more than eight thousand books collected or written by huang zunxian. the couplet

17、s hung on the walls were written by huang zunxian himself, which adds cultural deposits to the elegant environment.4. the marshal ye jianying former residence the marshal ye jianying former residence is simple in style. with simple and classical furniture, it looks like an ordinary farmhouse. in 198

18、9, it is listed as the provincial key cultural preservation relic of guangdong. on the left side of the former residence is the marshal ye jianying memorial hall. the name of the hall was written by the former chinese president yang shangkun. the bronze statue of marshal ye jianying was sculpted by

19、a famous chinese sculptor liu huanzhang. the two-story memorial hall, which is of characteristics of modern garden, has five showrooms, representing 5 periods of marshal ye jianyings life. the exhibits are classified into 20 themes, showing different aspects of marshal ye jianyings life.5. the yanna

20、nfei tea gardenthe yannanfei tea garden is a beautiful village resort. covered with a sea of green tea trees, it enjoys the reputation of “the green pearl”. there are all kinds of tea in the garden. travelers can not only enjoy the nice tea and chinese tea culture here, but also entertain themselves

21、 by playing golf, fishing and swimming. even walking is an amusement, for fresh air here keeps one far away from the hustle city.6. the yina mountain scenic spotthe yinna mountain, which enjoys the reputation of “the ancestor of the mountains in east guangdong”, is located in the mei town. the mount

22、ain got the name of the wuzhi mountain (the five-finger mountain) because on the top of the mountain there are 5 peaks which look like 5 fingers gathering together. the highest peak is about 1297 meters high. if you want to climb onto the top, you have to climb 3824 steps. on the top of the mountain

23、 you may enjoy a radiant sunrise. the rising sun is just like a bright pearl disgorged by a cloud dragon. the sunrises, burns off the fog and bathes the earth in its glow. you can enjoy a view of the meizhou, chaozhou and tingzhou from the mountain and take pleasure in the hakka style houses shining

24、 in the bright sunlight. 7. the yanming lake holiday resortthe yanming lake holiday resort is a multi-purpose resort for sight-seeing, agricultural tourism, health-building and leisure activities. its improved functions, modern facilities and supporting infrastructures are second to none in meizhou

25、or even in east guangdong. in 2005, the honk lake tourist resort was selected as the national 4a-class scenic area and the agricultural tourism demonstration spot. furthermore, it is the national production base of south china medicinal plants and the youth popular science base of guangdong. the res

26、ort has set up four functional spots according to four seasons. they are the chunhui ( the scenery in spring) garden, the xiaxiao ( the morning in summer) garden, the qiushi (the fruits in autumn) garden and the dongrong (the snow in winter) garden. inside the functional areas , you can get access t

27、o the resort holiday houses, the entertainment town, the tea art house, the rose garden, the horse-cart dak, the ziyan waterfall, the green island square, the grass skiing resort, as well as a number of pavilions, terraces, rockeries and ponds which shows great originality in offering wide views in

29、orse-riding course, the forest park, the hunting ground, the shooting ground, the water golf court are in the course of construction.8.hakka villages8.hakka villagesthe valleys between meizhou and dabu, to the east near the border with fujian, are filled with countless traditional hakka villages, sq

30、uare, symmetrical and well kept, and set in pleasant scenery. taianlou is a three-storey square house built in 1764 to accommodate a single clan. the outer walls are made of stone, except the third storey, which is brick; inside, the pillars and floors are wooden. the 200 rooms look out upon a cobbl

31、ed central courtyard, in which chickens and ducks congregate around an ancestral hall. members of the clan will let you wander freely around the upper storeys, from where you can view the attractive tiled roofs and hanging lanterns. taianlouthe most spectacular hakka round-houses are concentrated in

32、 fujian provinces yongding country, but an hour east of dabu, on the provincial border, huae lou is one of guangdongs example of the style. like taianlou, it is built around a cobbled courtyard, although round in shape, with the eaved roofs of two terraces overlooking it. huae louv. hakka culturethe
