Analysis of the Teaching Material1. OverviewThe main topic of Unit 6 is about everyday activities, the function is to talk about what people are doing, along with present progressive tense. And the main content of this period is a reading passage about a TV report. The topic will help students to master present progressive tense in vivid situation of everyday life. From the reading material, students will learn “different places, different time and activities”. It can help broaden our horizons. And it also has a close connection with the next period as well.2. Teaching Aims and DemandsAfter this period, students may be able to (1) Master the key words and phrases, and consolidate the present progressive tense.(2) Learn to talk about the time in different places and what people are doing at the same time in different places.(3) Develop their reading skills by scanning and skimming.(4) Deepen students love for family.3. Teaching Key Points(1) Help students to master the key words and phrases.(2) Help students to learn about the reading passage.(3) Develop students reading skills.4. Teaching Difficult PointsHow to develop students reading skills.II. Analysis of the StudentsStudents in Grade 7 are full of energy. They are active and have great interest in new things. They may have some learning skills and language background. However, some of them cant concentrate all their minds on learning. In their view, English is a little difficult, and they are afraid of making mistakes, so they dont often open their mouths.III. Teaching MethodsAccording to the English Curriculum Standard, the students learning situation and the teaching aims of this period, Ill use the multi-media to set a scene for students to understand better, asking and answering may help students to master the key sentence structures of Unit 6. And task based method may help them to understand the passage and get specific information. Students may also gain the sense of success through doing these tasks.Ill help students to use scanning, skimming and a chart to understand the reading passage better.IV. Teaching ProceduresIve designed 5 steps for this period, warming-up, pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading, and consolidation.Step 1 Warming-upShow some pictures and ask questions, like this: “what time is it? What is sb. doing? What are they doing?”. At the same time, Ill write some new words on the blackboard and teach them. (To review the language points learned before and learn some of the new words at the same time.)Step 2 Pre-readingIll show these pictures on the screen, students then can finish 2a in pairs. Then lead to the TV report about Zhu Hui by introducing him. (This is a pre-reading task. Students can know that a different places have different time and get ready for activity 2b. )Step 3 While-reading1. Scanning. Show the questions: Why are Zhu Huis family watching boat races and making zongzi? Does Zhu Hui like his host family? What does he think about his home in China?. Ask students to read the passage quickly and find out the answers to the questions. Check the answers together. (To train students reading skills.)2. Fast reading. Ask students to read each paragraph quickly and find out the main idea of each paragraph. Ill give some instructions to guide the students. (To get the main idea of each paragraph.) 3. Careful reading. Show some exercises and ask students to read each paragraph very carefully to find out specific information and fill in two charts. (These tasks may help students to understand the passage better and develop their reading kills.)4. Underline the doing phrases. Students read the passage again. Underline the doing phrases. (To get information from the passage, review the present progressive tense and get ready for the next step.)Step 4 Post-readingMatch the words in 2c, and then use the phrases to write sentences according to the TV report. (To help students understand the passage further, and master the present progressive tense by writing sentences, and set a foundation for the next period. )Step 5 Consolidation1. Sum up the main points of this period with the whole class and lead to the feeling of homesickness by music and a picture.2. Homework(1) Memorize the new words.(2) Read and try to retell the passage in 2b. (3) Preview the next period and finish activities 3a and 3b.V.
