3、 paper is study the nomenclature and translation of Harry Potter from a cultural perspective. Naming a character is an art,through which the author can express his satire, humor, hatred, love, etc.on his books. To a certain extent,the name has reavealed and enriched the content of the books.Conseque

4、ntly,to study the cultural connotation of the characters names has a significant meaning in better understanding of the literature.As to the translation of the names ,this paper will introduce the methods of Naturalization and Alienation ,and use them to analysis the names in Harry Potter.Present si

5、tuations of the research Many Chinese scholars began to research the series of Harry Potter from a best-seller to a cultural phenomenon and literary genre during the past decade.They started to study the protptype of the magic world,the religious meaning in these books and the translation of it etc.

6、Among these scholars,Yan Yumin and Zhu Botong believes that Harry Potters characters, objects, numbers are all showed the long history in application of the symbolism in UK fiction .Cai Bingxia hold that in J.K. Rowlings written ,she had used the metaphor smartly and use it as a basis for the articl

7、es reasoning which create a variety of the changing moods for readers and also helps us to understand the article.Zhou Shuru has gived a comparison of Harry Potter, the Bible and the Greek and Roman mythology,and she found that the prototypes of the Harry Potter are can be seen from the above-mentio

8、ned works.The author is weaving a new myth of an ancient myth.The conception of foreignization and domestication firstly introduced by Nida and Venuti.The former one is advocating foreignization while the other one is supporting domestication.Foreignization means a ethnodeviant pressure on those (cu

9、ltural)values to register the linguistic and cutueal difference of the foreign text,sending the reading aboard.Domestication means an ethnocentric reduction of the foreign tenxt to target-language cultueal values,bring the values back home.Over the past decade in discussion of foreignization and dom

10、estication is based on a paper which published on Modern Foreign Language in 1987.However the articles author may unexpected that the new pair of theoretical context would be widely discussed around the world.Western scholars believes that the foreignization and domestication is not complimentary bu

11、t mutually exclusive. The debate between foreignization and domestication had already exist since there has Translation.In the last century around the Lu xuns idea there started a debation between the two conceptions.Before it ,Yan Fu,Lin Shu,and Liang Qichao are all belonged to the domestication.Lu

12、 Xuns thought of translation was aimed to oppose the feudalism and transfer the national character.However,Lu Xuns theory had been misunderstanded,and eventually disappearded in the end.But in the latest discussions of translation method,scholars nearly all supported to the foreignization.The foreig

13、nization is faithfully to the original culture and language,by this means the readers can experience the foreign culture more deeper and is also helpful to the intercultural communication.Basis of the thesis Harry Potter,as a series of seven fantasy novels which have gained immense popularity,critic

14、al acclaim and commercial success worldwide since the release of the first novel in 1997.The book series has sold more than four hundred million copies and has been translated into sixty-seven languages and ranked third in the literary charts in terms of the number of books sold.This book,without de

15、nied,has played a decisive role in the history of world literature. In the past decade,the Chinese scholars has also studied it from different aspects and has made some good progress on it.But after studying thses resurches ,I found few people to analyze the names and translations of characters in H

16、arry Potter from a cultural point of view. Thus,I hold that there still have plenty of spaces to study nomenclature and translation of Harry Potter from a cultural perspective view.The basis of the research are as follows:(1)Methods and cutural connotations of namesPersons name in literary works, a

17、very important element, often vividly reflects the author s creation intention and the appropriate translation of these names plays an important role in the translated text. Therefore there exists a statement that the translation of the person s name is more difficult than that of the text in transl

18、ation circle. Research on the cultural connotation of persons name in literary works and its translation is of great importance to improve the readability of translation version and cultural exchange.Through the study of the naming for the characters in Harry Potter,we will have a general idea about

19、 the metods to name the characters in western countries and the cultural connotations behind these names will show the important civilization that inflence the western literature,such as the Greek and Roman mythology.(2)Foreignization and DomesticationIn todays China there still exist many debates o

20、n domestication and foreignization .The scholars who applaud the foreignization include Lu xun,Liu yingkai,Sun zhili,Liu yanli,and Yang zijian etc.Among these intellectuals,Sun zhili also made such prediction in the twenty-first century,the literary translation will dominated by foreignization.Howev

21、er,the misunderstanding of domestication and foreignization of translation is still exist in China.Threfore,scholars, especially those in the field of translation studies, should make a deeper study of them.Some scholars hold that from the perspective of culture and the translation context in China,

22、the domestication should be adopted by Chinese translators in E/C or C/E translation in the present context of globalization.In this paper,foreignization and domestication will be used to analyze the names in the seires of Harry Potter and through the comparision of the edition of the mainland ,Tai

23、Wang and Hong Kong to find which one is the best . Threfore,we can reach the conclusion that in the English novels about the translation of the names which one is more betterforeignization or the domestication.Objectives of the thesis The proposal is made for such several purposes as follows;Methods

24、 of naming the characters in Harry Potter.Discuss the connotations behind these names.Intrudoction of the translation methods of foreignization and domestication.Use the foreignization and domestication to analyze the translation of the names in Harry Potter.Significances of the thesis Significances

25、 of thses proposals can be great.To master the methods of named charcters in English novels can make a better understanding of foreign novels.Study the connotations behind the names can give a deepper understanding of western cutural.To master the translation methodsforeignization and domestication

29、此節應當是分析不同翻譯方法的優劣（歸化和異化），此節標題建議做修改。 6 Conclusion 7 Acknowledgements 8 Bibliography 總體來說，從本文的結構大綱上看，文章的結構還是可接受的。但分析的內容不購多，不詳細，這個題目較大，對本科畢業論文來說有相當大的難度，很難把握。如：從文章的題目看，需要對小說中的法術名稱進行分析，分析其宗教、歷史、文化等內涵，并在不同譯本和同一譯者的前后譯本間做比較，需寫作者進行大量閱讀，舉例，并重在分析過程。作為論文，一定要有論點。本文的論點不是很清晰，不知寫作者到底是支持歸化或是異化的翻譯手法，或是提出自己的觀點。總之，論文要觀點
