beamtotheLEDontheotherside.Asthewheelsspinandaholerotatesby,

thelightbeamgetsthroughtotheLEDontheotherside.Butamomentlater

thelightbeamisblockeduntilthenextholeisinplace.TheLEDdetects

achangingpatternoflight,convertsthepatternintoanelectronicsignalz

andsendsthesignaltothecomputerthroughwiresinacablethatgoesout

ofthemousebody.Thiscableisthetailthathelpsgivethemouseitsname.
