Preface

ThisStandardwaspreparedbytheAustralianmembersofJointStandardsAustralia/StandardsNewZealandCommitteeWS-001,WaterFittings,tosupersedeAS/NZS3499:2006.

Afterconsultationwithstakeholdersinbothcountries,StandardsAustraliaandStandardsNewZealanddecidedtodevelopthisdocumentasanAustralianStandardratherthananAustralian/NewZealandStandard.

Theobjectiveofthisdocumentistospecifyrequirementsforflexiblehoseassembliesforusewithbothheatedwaterandcoldwatersupplieswithamaximumheatedwatertemperatureof90℃usedforapplicationsabovegroundandaccessible.NominalsizesrangeuptoDN50,amaximumlengthof10mandwithanallowableoperatingpressureof1400kPaforsizesuptoandincludingDN25andprogressivelylowerpressuresforincreasinglylargerdiameters.

PerformancetestsarebasedinpartonEN13618.

ThemajorchangeinthiseditioninvolvestheadditionofnewClauses6.11,6.12and6.13,whichspecifyrequirementsforresistancetocorrosion,resistancetoultravioletdegradationandconformancetoproductspecification,alongwiththeirrespectivemethodsoftestinClausesB.10,B.11andB.12.Thenewperformancerequirement,Clause6.11,providesforhigherlevelsofcorrosionresistanceforhosesintendedtobesubmerged.

PerformancetestsequencingandsamplenumberingisdisplayedinTablesA.1andA.2.

Theterm"normative"isusedinStandardstodefinetheapplicationoftheappendixtowhichitapplies.A"normative"appendixisanintegralpartofaStandard.

1.1Scope

Thisdocumentspecifiesrequirementsforflexiblehoseassembliesforusewithwaterupto70℃andhightemperaturewaterat70℃to90℃andusedforapplicationsnotburiedandaccessible.

NominalsizesrangeuptoDN50(inclusive),amaximumlengthof10mforapplicationswheretheoperatingpressuredoesnotexceed1400kPaforsizesuptoDN25andprogressivelylowerpressuresforlargerdiametersasgiveninTable4.3.

Showerhosesforbathingonlyareexcludedfromthisdocument.

Hoseandhoseassembliesshallbeclassifiedaccordingtointendedapplication,maximumworkingpressure,workingtemperaturerangeandsuitabilityforsubmersionasgiveninTable4.3.

2.2Sizes

2.2.1Tube

Thesize,bywhichaflexiblehoseisdesignated,shallberelatedtothenominalsizeofitsinternaldiameter.

2.2.2Endconnectors

Thesizeandtypeofendconnectorsassembledtothetubeshallbeincludedintheproductdocumentation.

2.2.3Hoseassembly

ThesizedesignationofthehoseassemblyshallincludethetubeDN,theendconnectortypeandsize,andtheeffectiveoveralllength.

Section3Materials

3.1General

3.1.1Corrosionresistance

Alltubereinforcement,suchasmetallicbraidingandcrimpfittings,shallbecorrosionresistant.

Forthepurposeofthisdocument,thefollowingmaterialsshallbedeemedtobecorrosionresistant:

(a)PlasticmaterialsasspecifiedinClause3.2.

(b)CopperasspecifiedinClause3.3.1.

(C)CopperalloyasspecifiedinClause3.3.2.

(d)StainlesssteelasspecifiedinClause3.3.3.

3.1.2Contaminationofwater

AllmaterialsincontactwithdrinkingwatershallconformtoAS/NZS4020.

3.2Plasticandelastomericmaterial

3.2.1General

Plasticandelastomericmaterialsusedinhoseassemblies,ortheircomponents,shallmeetalloftheperformancerequirementsofthisdocument.

NOTEConsiderationshouldbegiventothereactionofplasticsandelastomerswithothermaterialsduringnormallifespananduse.Characteristicstobetakenintoaccountshouldincludecompatibilityandresistancetovariationsinwaterqualityandelevatedtemperatures.

3.2.2Cross-linkedpolyethylene

Cross-linkedpolyethylene(PE-X)materialsusedinhoseassemblies,ortheircomponents,shallmeetalloftheperformancerequirementsofthisdocument

3.2.3Acetal

Acetalplasticsusedforstructuralcomponentsthatareincontactwiththewatersupplyshallbecopolymer.

Thisstatementmayapplytoallotherplastics.

Section4Design

4.1Endconnectors

4.1.1General

Thedesignconfigurationshallbeatthediscretionofthemanufacturersubjecttoconformancetotheperformancerequirementsofthisdocument.Allendconnectorsshallbecapableofmakingawatertightjointwhenconnectedandtightenedinaccordancewiththemanufacturer'sinstructions.

Otherconnections(e.g.flange,camloc)shallconformtotherelevantAustralianorinternationalstandard.

Forendfittingsspecifictoacustomer'srequirement,theintendedmatingfittingshallbesuppliedandtestedforconformancetoClause6.2.

4.1.2Threads

ThreadsotherthanwhenintendedtobeusedforaspecificdesignconnectionshallconformtoAS3688.

4.1.3Threadengagement

Thelengthofthreadengagementonassembly,whentorquedtothemanufacturer'srecommendedspecification,shallallowaminimumnumberoffullthreadsinaccordancewithTable4.1.3.Thenumberoffullthreadsshallbecountedwhenthethreadedjointisassembledwithwashersorseals

TestrequirementsforClass1hosesshallbeinaccordancewithAS/NZS3662andasprescribedin

TableA.1andatthemaximumtemperatureforwhichthehoseisrated(LorH).

Hosesintendedforsubmersionshallhavethesuffix"S"followingtheclassofhoseinthemarking.Theseflexibleconnectorsmayhaveaprotectiveexternalcoatingorhaveadditionalresistancetocorrosion.

ConnectorsforinstallationsrequiringsubmersioninwaterorinareaswherethereisanelevatedriskofenvironmentalcorrosionshallbesubjectedtotheconditionsspecifiedinClause6.11.

NOTE1Classes2and3maybeusedtoprovideinlineexpansionandmovementcompensation.

4.4Marking

Flexiblehoseassembliesshallbepermanentlyandlegiblymarkedwiththefollowing:

(a)Manufacturer'sname,brandortrademark.

(b)WaterMark.

(c)Licencenumber.

(d)Theratedworkingtemperature(70℃or90℃)oftheassembly.InthecaseofhoseslessthanDN10,theletter"L"forflexiblehosesforwaterapplicationsupto70℃or"H"forflexiblehosesforwaterapplicationsupto90℃.

NOTE1Ahoseforwaterapplicationsupto90℃(H)isautomaticallysuitableforwater

applications<70℃(L).

(e)Referencetothisdocument,i.e.AS3499.

Section5Productdocumentation

5.1General

Ascopeofusestatementoflimitationsandconditionsshallbeincludedwiththeproductwhensold.ThestatementshallbeintheEnglishlanguageandclearlyvisibletothepurchaseranduser.Itmaybestampedontotheproduct,printedonthepackagingorincludedaspartoftheinstallationinstructions.

Whereitisnotpracticaltoincludethisstatement,adviceshallbeincludedthatthestatementisavailablefromthemanufacturer'swebsite.

5.2Installationinstructions

Flexiblehoseassemblyrequiringassemblyand/orfittingaspartoftheinstallationprocessshallbeaccompaniedbyinstallationinstructionsintheEnglishlanguage,includingadescriptionofinstallationrequirementssuchas—

(a)tighteningtorques;

(b)threadsizeandtype;

(c)minimumbendradius;

(d)operatingtemperature;

(e)pressurelimitations;

f)ultravioletdegradationduetoweatheringoranyotherlimitingfactor;

(g)flexiblehoseassembliesshallbeusedonlyinaccessiblelocationsandnotburied;and(h)theAustraliancontactdetailsofthemanufacturerordistributor.

TheinstallationinstructionsshallincludereferencestotherequirementsoftheAS/NZS3500seriesofStandards,includinganylimitationsontheproduct'suse.

Whereitisnotpracticaltoincludetheseinstructions,adviceshallbeincludedthattheinstructionsareavailablefromthemanufacturer'swebsite.

Section6Performancerequirements

6.1General

AppendixBsetsoutmethodsforthetestingofaflexiblehoseassemblyforwaterapplications.

EachsampleshallbelabelledaccordingtothesamplenumberspecifiedinTableA.1fortypetestingor

TableA.2forbatchtesting.

TestingshallbecarriedoutinthesequenceindicatedinTablesA.1andA.2.

Samples,completewithendconnections,shallpasstheperformancetestsinthisdocument.

6.2Watertightnesstest

WhentestedinaccordancewithClauseB.3,thetubeandfittingsshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailure.Thehoseshallnotchangeinlengthordiameterbymorethan8%.

6.3Acceleratedageingbyheattreatmenttest

WhereprescribedinTableA.1,samplesshallbeconditionedbytheacceleratedheat-ageingtestspecifiedinClauseB.4.

6.4Tensilestressresistancetest

Thehoseassemblyshallpasstheminimumtensileforcetest,asstatedinTableB.5.1andasspecifiedinClauseB.5.Duringandafterthistest,thehoseassemblyshallshownocracks,damageorleakage.Atthecompletionofthetest,ifthefittingsareloosenedfromtheirseatinanaxialdirection,thesampleshallbedeemedtohavefailed.

6.5Hydraulicpulsationdurabilitytest

FlexiblehoseassembliesshallbetestedinaccordancewithClauseB.6andAS/NZS3707.Thesampleshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailures.

6.6Thermalcyclingtest

Forhightemperature(H)hosesonly,theflexiblehoseassembliesshallbetestedfortheirabilitytowithstandtemperaturevariationsinaccordancewithClauseB.8.Aftertesting,thehoseassembliesshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailure.

6.7Burstpressuretest

(a)uptoDN20,15%oftheoutsidetubediameter;or

(b)DN25toDN50,20%oftheoutsidetubediameter.

6.9Contaminationofwater

AllmaterialsincontactwithdrinkingwatershallconformtoAS/NZS4020.Flexiblehoseassembliesshallbedeterminedasend-of-linefittingsforAS/NZS4020testingpurposes.

6.10Elastomericmaterials(tube)—Compressionset

ElastomericmaterialsorcomponentsshallbetestedtoAS1683.13orISO815-1at70℃for22h.Thecompressionsetshallnotexceed20%.

6.11Resistancetocorrosion

WhentestedinaccordancewithClauseB.10,hoseassemblies≤DN20shallnotshowanystructuraldefectincludingpittingandfrayedstrandswheninspected.

Endconnectorsshallbestructurallysound.Fitmenttothehoseshallbewatertight.

Hosestestedundersubmersibleconditionsautomaticallyconformtotheconditionsfornon-submersiblehoses.
