其實，我們身上總是寄生著許多微生物，馬拉色菌也是其中一員。它們寄生在產生毛發的毛囊中，以毛囊分泌的皮脂為食，我們的頭皮是我們身體上最油的地方之一，當馬拉色菌消耗頭皮的油脂時就會產生頭皮屑：Wemightconsiderourselvesindividuals,butwe’rereallycolonies.Ourskinhostsbillionsofmicrobes.Malasseziayeastsmakethemselvesathomeonourskinshortlyafterwe’reborn.Follicles(毛囊),thetinycavitiesthatgrowhairsalloverourbody,makeforespeciallypopularlivingquarters.Malasseziaarefondofthesehideoutsbecausetheycontainglands(腺)thatsecrete(分泌)anoilcalledsebum(皮脂)that’sthoughttolubricateandstrengthenourhair.Malasseziaevolvedtoconsumeourskin’sproteinsandoils.Andbecauseofitsmanysebum-secretingfollicles,ourscalpisoneoftheoiliestplacesonourbody—andconsequently,oneoftheyeastiest.Asthesefungifeastonourscalp’soils,dandruffmayform.
