This reading passage is about a guide dog lucky and his owner Bens story. Ben thanks the Animal Helper for giving and training Lucky for him. Thanks letter is another form to give thanks and showing their respects to others.2. Students analysis: Students in Grade Eight have been volunteers or helped others for many times. Students also get help from others for many times. They usually give thanks to the helpers by saying thank-you directly. However, writing thanks letter is another form to give thanks as well. Moreover, the guide dog is so helpful that every student is nearly interested in it. 3. Teaching aims:3.1 knowledge aim: Students are asked to know the new phrases set up, disabled, make a difference and the new words blind, deaf, normal, carry, excited, kindness. Moreover, they are able to write thanks letter to show thanks to the helpers.3.2 ability aim: After learning the letter, students are asked to guess the part of speech of words and use the words correctly. Also, students have a basic understanding of the structure of English sentences, like subject, verb, and object.3.3 emotion aim: This letter is also written to cultivate students awareness of returning thanks to the helpers and have a sense of thankfulness to the world.4. Teaching procedure:Step 1: Greeting and Lead in. Teacher shows the picture of the guide dog and lead in the topic.T: Dogs are friends of we humans. They not only make us happy, but also help us a lot, especially this kind of dogs, the guide dog. Who can they help? They help the people who cannot see or hear to find the way. Here is a video introducing the guide dogs. After watching it, answer the questions:Q1: what could the guide dogs help to do? To where?Q2: how can guide dogs be guide dogs?This step is set to lead in the topic and have a basic understanding of guide dogs usefulness.Step 2: Brainstorm about the difficulties the disabled people might meet in daily life.T: the owner of Nini cannot see. We call her the blind. These dancers are beautiful but they also have sth. Wrong with their ears. They are the deaf. Look at the two men. There is sth. Wrong with their arms and legs. Can they use their arms or legs well? No, they cannot use the legs or arms well. All these people have sth. wrong with their body. We call them the disabled. Running might be easy for you, but it is difficult for the disabled people. Brainstorm and tell me what difficulties the disabled people might meet in daily lives.The step is arranged to get the main meaning of blind, deaf, disabled and imagine the difficulties the disabled people may meet.Step 3: Skim the thanks letter and get the main idea of the letter.T: This man is Ben. He is unlucky. Whats the matter with him? He cannot use his arms well. But he is lucky because of the dog helper. Lets get to know the story. First, skim the passage and answer the four questions:Q1: what did Miss Li do to the Animal Helpers?Q2: what is the Animal Helpers?Q3: Whats the matter with Ben?Q4: What can Lucky do for Ben?Step 4: Scan the passage and pick up three important people and groups which have a difference to Ben. Fill in the chart in the worksheet.T: Thanks to Lucky, Bens life became different. Lucky changed Bens life. Lucky made a difference to Bens life. How did Ben get Lucky? Fill in the blanks in the worksheet.Step 5: Scan the passage again and fill in the passage, a summary of the thanks letter, by using the words or phrases taken from the passage.Animal Helpers is a (團體)set up to help (disable) people. Lucky is a dog who got (train) in it and helped Ben a lot. Lucky changed Bens life and make a (different) to his life. Here is Bens story. Ben meets many (difficult) in daily life, because he cannot use his arms or legs (good). So normal things like (carry) things are difficult for him. Then with the help of his friend and the group, Ben brought Lucky home. So Ben wrote this (信) to thank Miss Li, who gave money and showed her (kind) to him. This step is to consolidate students understanding of the key words of the letter.
