Introduction
In2010,therewasafatalaccidentwhenachildofafarmerwastrappedbyanautomaticstabledisplay.ThisaccidenthappenedbothintheNetherlandsandBelgium.
ThisaccidenttriggeredsomeDutchexpertstousetheexistingDutchTechnicalAgreementNTA8344:2012“Sidecurtains-Safety"forthedevelopmentofthefirstEuropeanStandard"Sidesystemscurtainsventilationsystems-Safety".
Thisstandardisatype-CstandardasspecifiedinENISO12100:2010.
Themachineryconcernedandtheextenttowhichhazardsarecoveredareindicatedinthescopeofthisstandard.ThesehazardsarespecifiedtotheSidecurtainsventilationsystems.
WhereprovisionsofthistypeCaredifferentfromthosewhicharestatedbytypeAorBstandards,theprovisionsofthistypeCstandardtakeprecedenceovertheprovisionsoftheotherstandards,formachinesthathavebeendesignedandbuiltaccordingtotheprovisionsofthistypeCstandard.
Inordertomaketheobjectiveofthisconceptclearandeliminateuncertaintieswhenreadingit,thefollowingassumptionsaremade:
a)componentswithoutspecificrequirementsarecomponents
1)designedaccordingtothecommondesignandcalculationmethods,includingallfailuremechanisms;
2)ofasolidmechanicalandelectricalconstruction;
3)manufacturedfromsufficientlystrongmaterialwithasuitablequality;
4)ofwhichgeneralelectricalhazardsaredealtwithbyapplicationofthestandardsforelectricalinstallations,suchasEN60204-1:2018;
b)withtheexceptionofthefollowingprovisions,isamechanicalsupplybuiltaccordingtotherequirementsofgoodcraftsmanshipandtherequirementsinthisstandardconcept:
1)agreementsbetweenthemanufacturerandthebuyeraboutthespecialconditionsofuse,andplacewherethescreenisusedinconnectionwithhealthandsafety;
2)thelocationoftheinstallationwillbesuitableforthis;
3)theplaceofinstallationwillallowasafeuseofthescreen.
Theseassumptionsdonotlimittheneedforsufficientinformationinthisconceptstandardbeforeuse.

1Scope
1.1General
Thisdocumentspecifiesthestandardizationofsidecurtainventilationsystemsasdefinedin3.1.Thisdocumentspecifiesthesafetyaspectsandperformance.Includedaremachinesthatoperateusingthepotentialenergystoredbytheearlierapplicationofhumanoranimalforce,suchasstretchedsprings.
Thisdocumentaddressesthefollowingsignificanthazardsassociatedwithsidecurtainsystems:
一crushing;
—cuttingorsevering;
—drawing-inortrapping;
-entanglement;—shearing;
-suffocation;
—electrocutionandshock;
一incorrectdesign,locationoridentificationofcontroldevices.
1.2Exclusions
Thisdocumentdoesnotapplytothefollowing,whichareintendedforadifferentuse:
-doorsandsidecurtainswhenusedasdoorswhicharespecifiedinEN13241:2003+A2:2016;
-systemsinflatedbyair;
—screenssuppliedforthecontroloffireorsmoke;
—screensthatmoveinstantaneouslyupontheapplicationofhumanforce;
-sidecurtainswhenusedtocontrolventilationconditionsinatoxicorexplosiveenvironment.
Thisdocumentisnotapplicabletosidecurtainventilationsystemsmanufacturedbeforethedateofitspublication.

5Requirements
5.1General
Machineryshallcomplywiththesafetyrequirementsand/orprotective/riskreductionmeasuresofthisclause.Inaddition,themachineshallbedesignedaccordingtotheprinciplesinENISO12100:2010forrelevantbutnotsignificanthazardswhicharenotdealtwithbythisdocument.
Themanufacturershallperformariskanalyses,assessmentandreductionprocess.Foranexamplehowtoperformsuchaprocess,seeAnnexE.
5.2Mechanicalrequirements
5.2.1General
Sidecurtainsystemsshallbedesignedandconstructedsothattheyarecapableofbeinginstalled,maintained,repaired,usedanddismantledinasafemanner.
5.2.2Mechanicalstrength
Thesidecurtainanditscomponents,includingitsfixingsforattachmenttothebuilding,shallbedesignedsothat,duringnormaloperation,nopartofthesystem,includingthefixings,shallbepermanentlydeformed.
Thesidecurtainshallbedesignedsothatelasticdeformationsunderoperationalforcesortorqueswhichoccurduringnormalusedonotaffectthefunctionofthesystem.
Thedesignshallbeinaccordancewithrecognizedengineeringstress/yieldcalculationsortestmethodsusingadequatesafetyfactors,seeTable1,takingintoaccountthemostunfavourablestaticanddynamicforcesoccurringduringtheoperatingcycleortheuseofthesafetyequipmentwithinthesidecurtain.

5.2.3Resistancetowindload
Theresistancetowindloadofasidecurtainisitscapacitytowithstandaspecifieddifferentialwindpressure.
NOTETheconstructionofthesidecurtainsystemdependsonthepressureofanumberoffactorsincluding,e.g.themaximumwindspeedanticipatedinthearea,thelocation,height,sizeandshapeofthebuilding,andthepositionofthesidecurtainonthebuilding.
Whendefinitewindloadclassesorpressuresarenotstatedbythespecifier,sidecurtainsshallbedesignedinordertoresistspecifieddifferentialwindpressure,andshallbeclassifiedwiththewindloadclassesasspecifiedinAnnexF.SeeFigureF.1foratypicalwindmapofEurope.
Therequirementsofthisclauseapplytotheabilityoftheclosedsidecurtainandnottotheirabilitytobeopenedorclosedunderwindload.

Forcorrectoperationofsidecurtains,themanufacturershallstatethemaximumwindspeed(withintheoperatinginstructions,5.9.4)wherethesystemcanbeoperatedwithoutriskoffailureofthesystem.
Thedeflectionofthecurtainorotherelementsresultingfromthedifferentialpressurespecifiedshallnotcausepermanentdeformationswhichwillaffectthefunctioningofthesystemorcreateanyriskofjamming.
5.2.4Steelwireropes,syntheticropes,andstraps
General
Steelwireropes,syntheticropes,andstraps,etc.shallbesuitablefortheintendedapplicationwithregardstostrength,durabilityandcorrosionresistance.
Forsuspensionelements,asinglewirerope,syntheticrope,orstrap,etc.canonlybeusedifafailureoftheelementwillresultinthecurtainfallingundergravityinasafemanner,i.e.thefallingcurtainwillberestrainedinacontrolledmannerthatwouldnotexposepeopleneartoittoincreasedriskofcrushing,shearing,entanglement,drawing-inortrapping.
Wheretwoormoresuspensionelementsareused,itshallbeensuredthatthedeadloadsaresharedinapre-determinedway.
Theguaranteedminimumbreakingstrengthofsuchasuspensionelementdeterminedbycalculationsofthemaximumloadithastosupport,multipliedbythesafetyfactor(Table1).

—ropepulleysshallbedesignedsothatthesteelwireropecannotjumpoutofthepulley.
Steelwireropesusedcommonlyinsystemstypicallywillnotresultinincreasedlevelsofrisk,i.e.ifthecurtainfallsdowninsafemanner(e.g.withinthewindbracing).Forsteelwireropeswherefailureoftheropewouldnotresultinincreasedlevelsofrisk:
