Foreword
ThisproductstandardwaspreparedbyEuroWindoortobeadoptedasharmonizedtechnicalEuropeanSpecificationbytheStandingCommitteeinconjunctionwiththeEU-DirectiveaccordingtoAnnexZAwhichformsanintegralpartofthisdocument.
Thereasonforpublicationofthisdocumentisthefactthattestandclassificationstandardsforwindowsandexternaldoorshavealreadybeenapprovedforanumberofyears.Asaresult,alltestingperformedwithinthescopeofthestandardsisbasedonthesenewstandards.
However,contractingcontinuestobebasedontheoldstandardsbecausetheproductstandardstillremainstobecompleted.Forthisreasonindustryhasbeenconfrontedwiththedifficultyofcontractingnotbeinginlinewithstandards.Thiscontradictionneededtoberesolvedrapidly.Continuedadherencetotheusualstandardizationprocedurewouldhavedelayedcompletionforatleastanothertwoyears.Itwasfurthermorenotedthatobjectionswereplacedbyagreatnumberofpartnercountriesofthestandardizationorganizationstodelaycompletionofthestandard.
TheEuropeanIndustrythereforedecidedtodeclaretheproductstandardresultingfromstandardizationactivitiesasmandatory.BasisoftheproductstandardaretheENdocumentsapprovedfortestingandclassification.
1 Scope
ThisEuroWindoorStandardspecifiesmaterial-independentperformancecharacteristicsaslistedinclause4.Itappliestothefollowing:
WindowsandFrenchwindowsreadyforinstallationinverticalwallapertures,orininclinedroofs(roofwindows)
fixed,openable(hinged,projecting,pivoted,sliding),orpartlyfixed,withorwithoutfanlightsandlateralparts;

Dangeroussubstances
Whenrelevantfortheintendeduse,windowsandexternalpedestriandoorsshallnotreleasedangeroussubstancesinexcesstothemaximumpermittedlevelsspecifiedintherelevantnationalregulations.ThiscanbeverifiedthatmaterialsdonotreleasemoredangeroussubstancesasspecifiedintherelevantnationalregulationsorharmonisedEuropeanmaterialstandards.
Safetyinuse
Impactresistance

Ifrequired,windowsandexternalpedestriandoorswithriskforinjuryinrespecttoimpactand/orfallenglassprovidedwithsafetyglass,oranyotherinfillingmaterial,shallbetestedandtheresultsshallbeexpressedinaccordancewithprEN13049(dropheightandcorrespondingdirectionofimpact).Ifrelevant,thetestshallbecarriedoutoneitherside.
NOTEThetestaccordingtoprEN13049shallensurethattheassemblyofthewindow/externalpedestriandoorisproperlycarriedout.
Load-bearingcapacityofsafetydevicesforhingedandpivotedwindows
Safetydevices(e.g.retainingandreversingcatches,restrictors,andfixingdevicesforcleaningprocedures),ifprovidedandengagedinaccordancewiththemanufacturer’spublishedinstructions,shallbeabletoholdthecasementinplacefor60swhen350Nareappliedtothecasementinthemostunfavourableway(position,direction).ThisthresholdstrengthshallbedemonstratedbymeansoftestscarriedoutinaccordancewithEN948(referencemethod),orbycalculation.
Externalpedestriandoorswithautomaticopeningand/orclosingdevices
FireresistantandsmokecontrolexternalpedestriandoorsshallfulfillthesafetyrequirementsinprEN13916andprEN14013respectively.
Acousticperformance
ThesoundinsulationindexshallbedeterminedinaccordancewithFigureB.1orbytest(referencemethod)inaccordancewithENISO140-3.
ThetestresultsshallbeevaluatedinaccordancewithENISO717-1.

Thetestforairpermeabilitycanbecarriedoutoncompletescreens,oronindividualpartsofthescreen,includingtheairpermeabilityofjointsbetweentheindividualparts(windows,externalpedestriandoors,oropenableandfixedwindows).Ifthetestiscarriedoutonindividualparts,thetotalairleakageshallbecalculatedasthesumoftheindividualtestresultsandtheleakageratesofthejoints.
Durability
General
Thedurabilityofwindowsandexternalpedestriandoorsdependsontheperformanceoftheindividualcomponentsaswellastheirassemblies.
Thewearingpartsshallbereplaceableandthemanufacturershallprovideinformationaboutmaintenanceandreplacement(seeclause6).

Bymeansofadequatechoiceofmaterials(includingcoatings,preservations,compositionandthickness)componentsandassemblymethods,themanufacturershallensurethedurabilityagainstUVaction,weatheringandageing/degradationofhisproduct(s)foraneconomicallyreasonableworkinglifetakingintoaccounthispublishedmaintenancerecommendations.
Compliancewiththisrequirementcanbeensured,ifmaterials,components,methodsofmanufactureandassemblymeettherelevantrequirement(s)ofthestandardslistedbelow.
