中國的言情小說在歷史上曾經有過兩次大的浪潮,一次是在明清之
際,以才子佳人小說為代表,一次是在民初時期。據記載,民國初年上
海發行的小說中,按其內容十有八九為言情之作。言情小說在小說中占
據如此之高的比例,是罕見的,所以稱它為言情小說浪潮。
民初的言情小說浪潮起自晚清,它與當時翻譯小說有著密切的聯
系。晚清的翻譯小說浪潮是由林紓翻譯《巴黎茶花女遺事》(LaDame
auxCamélias)開始的。在此之前中國雖也翻譯了一些外國小說,但是
卻始終未能形成氣候,成為浪潮。林紓翻譯的《巴黎茶花女遺事》在當
時中國人的眼里,就是一部言情小說。民初的言情小說浪潮,直接受到
翻譯的外國小說影響。在某種意義上,我們幾乎可以說它的形成與它的
