In one investigation, 300Japanese and 210 American preschool teachers, child development specialists, and pa

Only 2 percent of the Japanese respondents listed “to give children a good start academically as one of their top three reasons for a society to have preschools. In contrast, over half the American respondents chose this as one of

An emphasis on the importance of the group seen in Japanese early childhood education continues into elementary school education.Like in America, there is diversity in Japanese early childhood education.

They make up less than I percent of the atmosphere. Still, they are important. These gases trap the suns heatwhen it is reflected off Ea

The glass in the windows lets sunlight in. The heat cannotget out, though. So the car gets very hot inside. The glass in
42、 agreenhouse acts in the same way to trap heat, which protects plantsfrom the cold. The greenhouse effect makes life on Earth possible. We need carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Otherwise, Earths temperature would be below freezing. Other planets have a greenhouse effect, too. Venus(金星)has an atmosph

The temperatureon Mars is about -76F, which most scientists think is not warmenough for life. What Is Global Warming During the past 20
44、0 years, humanshave been adding carbon dioxide to the air.Every time we burn fossil fuels (礦物燃料) suchas coal and gasoline we put more carbon dioxide into the air. A car, for example, pumps out(排出) four tons of carbon dioxide each year! The factories that people have built alsoburn fuel and give off c

Growing treestake carbon dioxide out of the air every day. They use that carbon dioxide to make food. So when the trees are cut down, more carbondioxid
46、e stays in the air. Today, the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere is at an all-time high. It is about 25 percent higher than it wasin 1860. The blanket of gases around Earth is getting thicker. This steady increase in carbon dioxide will trap more andmore heat. Some scientists believe that, as a
47、 result, Earths temperature will rise. Over the last 120 years, scientists have trackedEarths average temperature. They have made graphs(圖表) thatshow the temperature of Earth has increased about 1 F in the lastcentury. Many scientists believe this warming will soon speed upand consider an increase o

Experts generallyagree, however, that global warming could have serious effects.Such changes would be greatest near the North Pole and SouthPole, fo

A rise in sea level ofseveral feet could wash away beaches(海灘) and submerge(淹沒)cities along the coast(海岸). The cities would then be under water.Great harm
50、would be done. Global warming could also cause changes in the weather.Soils, rivers, and lakes could dry up through evaporation(蒸發(fā)). Aswater evaporated, it could form more clouds, causing more rain andsnow to fall on Earth. However, some areas would get much morerainfall, while others would get less
51、. The amounts would depend onwhere the winds blew the clouds formed by evaporation. Some scientists think that the American Midwest would getmuch less rain. That could turn fertile(肥沃的) Midwestern farms intodeserts, seriously affecting our food supply. Changes in the weathercould affect plants and a

Trees and other plants, however, would have trouble.Scientists use puters to try to predict what the effects ofglobal warming will be. However, no one can know exactly what willhappen next. Many things aff

Different scientistsoften make different predictions because there are so many facts toconsider and interpret(解釋).What Can We DoWe must act now to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. To solve the problem, we
54、 need to find new sources of energy that do not put carbon dioxide into the air. In the meantime, we can save energy. For instance, burning less gasoline inour cars would keep a great deal of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. In addition, we need to preserve the forests we have now and plant new
