It is one of a nu mber of methods in use for evaluat ing the react ion of plastics to the effects of ign iti on sources.The method described does

5、not give a direct measure of the combustibility or rate of burning of a material or any definition of the safe upper limit of temperature for the plastics in use, and is not intended to be used alone to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products or assemblies un der act

However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire hazard or fire risk assessment which takes into account all of the factors pertinent to an assessme nt of the fire hazard of a particular end use.Tests made un der con diti ons of this method can be of con siderable

7、 value in comparing the relative ignition characteristics of different materials. Values obta ined represe nt the lowest ambie nt air temperature that will cause ign iti on of the material under the conditions of this test. The results are defined as oxygen index values. Methods are provided for testing materials that are sel

These methods are suitable for solid, lam in ated or cellular materials characterized by an apparent density greater than 100 kg/m3. 41、Abstract 摘要This part of ISO 5658 specifies an in termediate-scale method of test for measuri ng the vertical spread (upward and dow nward) of flame over a specime n of a product orie ntated in the vertical positi on. A measure of lateral spread can also be obta in ed. It provides data suitable for c

42、ompari ng the performa nce of materials, composites or assemblies, which are used as the exposed surfaces of walls or other vertically orientated products in con struct ion applicati ons. Some products with profiled surfaces can also be tested with a modified procedure represe ntative of the en d-us

43、e con diti ons of the product. Upward flame spread is not limited to surfaces which are vertical. It is recog ni zed that an enhan ced form of upward, win d-aided flame spread can also occur on surfaces at an an gle greater tha n20° from the horizontal without any external ventilation. This typ

44、e of flame spread can occur in both pla nar slop ing surfaces and stepped surfaces such as stairs. Flame spread in these situations can become very rapid and can cause serious problems in escape ways such as staircases. When assess ing stepped or slop ing surface materials, it may be more appropriat

45、e to use a vertical flame spread test rather than a test in which the specime n is horiz on tal.This part of ISO 5658 is applicable to the measurement and description of the propertiesof materials, products, composites or assemblies in resp onse to radioactive heat in the prese nee of non-imp inging

The heat source may be con sidered to represe nt a sin gle burning item such as a wastepaper bin or an upholstered chair withi n an en closure, and this seen ario would gen erally be con sidered to apply during the early developing stage of a
