摔倒falloff...

從......掉下remain是動詞,意思是“保持不變;剩余”,作不及物動詞時,可加介詞短語;作系動詞時,后面跟形容詞,意為“保持某種狀態(tài)”。remain不能用于被動語態(tài)。e.g.Nothingremainedinhishouseafterthebigearthquake.

大地震后他家里什么也沒剩下。Verylittleofthehouseremainedafterthefire.火災(zāi)之后這座房子所剩無幾。Theboyremainedsilentallthetimeinclass.那個男孩子在課上一直保持沉默。

Itproducedanicesmellsohetastedthebrownwater.

(教材P43)smell作可數(shù)名詞時意為“氣味”,作不可數(shù)名詞時意為“嗅覺”。作動詞時意為“發(fā)出......氣味;聞到”。e.g.Theflowerhasasweetsmell.

這花有香甜的氣味。

這道菜聞起來很香。

Ismeltsomethingburning.

我聞到有東西燒焦了。⑤

Itwasquitedelicious,andso,oneoftheworld’sfavoritedrinkswasinvented.(教材P43)oneof...的意思是“......之一”,后面接名詞或代詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式,該結(jié)構(gòu)作主語時,謂語動詞通常用單數(shù)形式。e.g.OneofthestudentsinourclasshelpstheoldmanonSundays.

我們班的一位同學(xué)每逢周日都幫助那位老人。

inthe19thcentury.(教材P43)takeplace的意思是“發(fā)生;出現(xiàn)”,它易與happen混淆,二者的區(qū)別為:takeplace不及物動詞短語;常指事先安排或事發(fā)有因的事情。happen

不及物動詞;常指偶然發(fā)生的事情。e.g.ThecelebrationceremonytakesplaceinJulyeachyear.
