Sincenearlytwohundredyearsnow,theyhaveshownthe worldthatpoliticalindependenceandnationalidentitycanbecompletewithoutsacrificingtheenormousmutualadvantagesofacommonTheprevioussectionhasshownhowquicklyapassesfromoneschoolchildtothenext,andillustratesthefurther(1)differencebetweenschoolloreandnurserylore.Innurseryloreaverse,learntinearlychildhood,isnotusuallypassedonagainwhenthelittlehasgrownup,andhaschildrenoftheirown, orevengrandchildren.Theperiodbetweenlearninganurseryrhymeandtransmittingitmaybesomethingfromtwentyto seventyyears.Withtheygroundlore,therefore,arhymemaybepassedonwithintheveryhouritislearnt;and,inthegeneral,6)itpassesbetweenchildrenofthesameage,ornearlyso,sinceitis monforthedifferenceinagebetween tobemorethanfiveyears.If,therefore, ygroundrhymebeshowntohavebeencurrentlyforahundredyears,
