整部片子節奏一直不溫不火，基汀老師的形象有高大的近乎十全十美的嫌疑，漂亮的小男生們演得很好，不時在恰倒好處的時候響起的蘇格蘭風笛更是將氣氛渲染的十足。輕輕巧巧地把觀眾引入導演下的套中，冷不防地感動起來。

基廷老師的被迫離職與一位學生的自殺緊密相關，這位學生品學兼優，且富有詩人氣質和表演才華，他的才華得不到父親的認可，又不能阻抗父親對他的期待，他只能通過了斷自己的生命來結束無望的未來。或許導演只想通過這個絕對的實例來展現社會、父母和學校過于認同世俗社會對身份地位的認同，但是道理只有一個，若你不能掌握自己的人生道路，最后只能面對可悲的死亡。電影的結尾，學生們重新回到老套的課堂，校長在逼迫學生們照本宣科的學習詩作和詩評，而已經有了自我意識的學生終于阻抗了校長的淫威，站到桌面上念那著名的詩作也是對白：“Capitan，myCapitan！”實際上這里要講的不是學生如何對抗所謂的權威，而是說正在人生的認知筑建的另一個關鍵階段，老師的引領，自我意識的萌芽是多么重要的一件事情。這兩部片子劇情上的相似之處在于同樣維護正統的校園，同樣良好家庭出身的學生走同樣被安排好的道路，同樣另類的老師同樣啟迪學生
