Amongtheparticipantswhorememberedtheirdreams,theresearcherscouldidentifywhichaudiobookeach

hadheardfromtheirdescriptionsofthedreams.Whiletheparticipantsslept,theresearchersalsousedanEEG(腦

電圖)capthatdetectselectricalactivitytorecordtheirbrainwaves.Thisshowedthatthewavepatternsduringthe

rapideyemovementphaseofsleep,whendreamsoccur,weremoresimilarbetweenthosewhohadheardthesame

audiobookthanthosewhohadhearddifferentones,suggestingthatthelisteningexperienceshapedthebrain

activity.

Furtheranalysisofthepatternsrevealedthathighfrequencybetawaves-between18and30hertz-weremost

stronglyassociatedwiththeparticipantsrecallingtheaudiobookrelatedcontentoftheirdreams.Thefindings

suggestthatdailylifeexperiencescanshapedreamcontentviamemoryreactivation,accordingtotheresearchers.

Butwhiledreamingmayserveadistinctpurposeinmemoryformation,itcouldalsobeabyproductofmemory
