李鴻蕊M.A.K.HallidayhasdevelopedideasstemmingfromFirth’stheoriesintheLondonSchool.Hissystemic-functionalgrammarisasociologicallyorientedfunctionallinguisticapproachandoneofthemostinfluentiallinguistictheoriesinthe20thcentury.Systemic-FunctionalLinguisticshastwoponents:SystemicGrammarandFunctionalGrammar.SystemicGrammarSystemicgrammaraimstoexplaintheinternalrelationsinlanguageasaSYSTEMNETWORK,orMEANINGPOTENTIAL.Andthisnetworkconsistsofsubsystemsfromwhichlanguageusersmakechoices.系統語法旳目旳是要闡明語言作為系統旳內部底層關系,它是與意義有關聯旳可供人們不停選擇旳若干子系統構成旳系統網絡,又稱"意義潛勢"。Thenotionofsystemismadeacentralexplanatoryprinciple,thewholeoflanguagebeingconceivedasa“systemofsystems”.Hallidaydefinessystemasasystemofpotentials,arangeofalternatives.SystemicGrammarTheaxisofchainSurfaceaspectsofgrammar,suchassentencestructures,linguisticunits,andtheirranks(sentence,clause,group,word,andmorpheme)TheaxisofchoiceMeaningaspectsofgrammarAxisofchoice(paradigmatic)AxisofChain(syntagmatic)Thesystemofalanguageismadeupofmanysystems.Onagenerallevel,thereistheChainSystemandtheChoiceSystem.personFirstpersonSecondpersonThirdpersonnumbersingularpluralHeeatstheapple.Allsystemshavethreeessentialcharacteristics:Thetermsinasystemaremutuallyexclusive;AsystemisfiniteThemeaningofeachterminasystemdependonthemeaningofothertermsinthesamesystem.
