Teaching aims:1) Knowledge object: By the end of the lesson, Ss will have a better understanding of the meaning and structure of the text. Given the statement of new curriculum standard, c
2、ompared with compulsory education period, the main object of English study has changed into the development of comprehensive ability. Whats more, the discourse comprehension is one of the most important component of comprehensive English ability. Students of grade 1 in senior high school have studie
3、d English for 6 years and grasped a certain amount of English knowledge. In spite of this, the other knowledge objective is still to grasping useful words and expressions such as elevator, petrol, gas, lorry, because of., come up., etc. 2) Ability object: Actually students should be encouraged to do
4、 speed reading in the first period of reading lesson. But the students in my class are lack of independent reading ability. In this class, I will encourage and help them to read, think and find out information by themselves most time. Since the main objective of reading course is to improve the Ss r
5、eading ability, Ill train their ability of identifying the general idea in the fast reading. And in intensive reading their ability of information-gathering and summarizing is developed. And the whole class is for Ss to develop their reading skills as scanning, skimming, information-gathering, summa
6、rizing and guessing the new words from the text. 3)Emotion and attitude object: The text is introducing English from many aspects. So before learning the text, we will have a short discussion about the importance of English. I want the Ss to have the awareness of the importance of learning English a
7、nd help them to cultivate the motherland consciousness and intercultural awareness. Most importantly, their attention to the outside world and social issues has been enhanced in their early studies. And all of these are beneficial to todays teaching.4.Teaching key points: how to make Ss grasp the ne
8、w words and phrases and how to improve their reading skills as scanning, skimming, information-gathering and summarizing 5. Teaching difficult points: the difficult points, they are the same as the important ones.Teaching Methods: task-based language teaching and communicative approach 7. Teaching a
9、ids: computer and blackboard 8. Teaching procedureStep I: Warming up In the first step, I will use a joke to break the ice.The joke will be shown on ppt. A:Do you like moving pictures? B:Well, yeah! Why not? A:Ok! Follow me, please! B:What? A:Lets go downstairs to move the pictures! B:Oh, oh.“Moving
10、 pictures” is the old saying of “movies” in the US. It will leads directly to “go to the pictures=go to the movies”. Additionally, teacher can use the phrases to introduce the differences between British English and American English. Ss have to guess the answers which corresponds to the British Engl
11、ish words or American English words given by teacher on the powerpoint. Ss have already previewed the topic and their previous hom
12、ework was to discuss the questions listed in the pre-reading part in the book in group of four. Considering of this, ss are supposed to make reports based on their homework. 2) Reading and comprehensionThe first task is skimming. Ss will read the passage fast in silence and find out the main idea of
13、 each paragraph.Suggested answer:Para.1:Brief introduction of the change in English.Para.2:An example of different kinds of English.Para.3:The development of English.Para.4:English spoken in some other countries.The following task is scanning. Ss will read para.1 and 2 loud in detail. There are some
14、 statements on the blackboard of which some are right while some not. Ss have to read them and then tell whether they are true or false. If false, they have to find out the mistake and correct it.(slides:1.Most of the English speakers in the 16th century lived in England.2.More and more people use E
