Hill,reviewedstudiesofshootingincidents,suchasthoseatColumbine
HighSchool,Colorado,in1999andatVirginiaTechin2007,andofgeneral
schoolaggression.Theyidentifiedsharedcharacteristicsthatmighthave
helpedtoshapethekillers."Shootingsappearmorelikelyinschools
characterizedbyahighdegreeofsocialstatusandlowbondingand
attachmentbetweenteachersandstudents,〃Wikesays."Theyprovide
rewardsandrecognitionforonlyanelitefew,andcreatesocialdynamics
thatpromotedisrespectfulbehavior,bullying,andpeerharassment.〃
