AllanPengTheEasternandWesternpeoplesthinkandspeakdifferently.Thisdifferenceissometimessogreatthattheythinkandspeakjustintheoppositeway.Whatisaffirmativetotheonemaybethoughtnegativebytheother,andviceversa.Everylanguagehasitspeculiaritiesinnegation.Sometranslators,evensomenotedtranslatorsoftenmaderidiculouserrorsinthisrespectthroughcarelessness.Accordinglynegationmeansmuchintranslationandeverytranslatormustattachgreatimportancetothispoint.

從廣義上說，任何反說轉正說和正說轉反說以及任何相反概念的轉譯都屬于這種譯法。如hungermarch----反饑餓游行，terrorwar-----反恐戰爭，dustmask---防塵罩，teartest----抗拉扯實驗,theheadofthestory---故事的后面等都屬于廣義的正反譯法。

而今天討論的主要指帶有否定詞的正反翻譯。英語中含有no，not，never，none，un-，-less，im-，in-，ir-等成分的詞句，都被視為否定表達，簡稱反說。相反，英語中不含這些成分的詞句稱為肯定說法，簡稱正說。漢語中含有“不”，“沒”，“未”，“休”，“莫”，“非”，“否”，“勿”等也都是否定表達。

在翻譯中通常都可以保留原文的否定表達，但有時為了表達更為順暢，符合目的語的表達方法，或為了增強語言效果，有時反說正譯，或正說反譯。

歸納起來，正反互譯主要有以下一些情況：

A.從正面表達，譯文從反面表達1．動詞Suchachancewasdeniedme.我沒有得到這樣一個機會。2．副詞A:Theboyisquiteclever.B:Exactly.

甲：這孩子很聰明。乙：一點不錯。3．形容詞

1）Itwouldbemostdisastrousifevenarumorofitweregiven.甚至只要有一點點風聲漏出去，結果就不堪設想。

2）Theexplanationisprettythin.

這個解釋是相當不充實的。

3）Hisrefusalisnotfinal.他的拒絕不是不可改變的。4．前置詞

1）Thisproblemisaboveme.這問題我不懂。（或：我解決不了）。

2）Itwasbeyondhispowertosignsuchacontract.他無權簽訂這種合同。6．名詞

1）Byaboutsix-thirtythesoundsofaircraft,trucksandtankshadbecomequitefamiliar,butaseriesofsmallexplosionsnearbyseemedcausefornewanxiety.大約到六點半，大家對飛機、卡車和坦克的聲音已經很習以為常了。但是附近一些輕微的爆炸聲似乎又造成了新的不安。7．短語

1）Theislandersfoundthemselvesfarfromreadytofightthewar.島民發現自己遠遠沒有做好作戰準備。

2）Webelievethattheyoungergenerationwillproveworthyofourtrust.我們相信，年輕一代將不會辜負我們的信任。

2）Thedoubtwasstillunsolvedafterhisrepeatedexplanations.雖經他一再解釋，疑團仍然存在。2．副詞

1）ManyagreedthatthePrimeMinisterhadineffectresigneddishonorably.許多人認為首相辭職實際上是很丟面子的。3．形容詞

1）Hewasanindecisivesortofpersonandalwayscapricious.他這個人優柔寡斷，而且總是反復無常。

2）Allthearticlesareuntouchableinthemuseum.博物館內一切展品禁止觸摸。4．名詞

1）Hemanifestedastrongdislikeforhisfather’sbusiness.他對他的父親的行業表示強烈的厭惡情緒。

（二）有些正反譯法可以增強修辭效果，但使用的時候需要非常慎重。
