WATERTANKCONSTRUCTIONMETHODSTATEMENT(CIVILWORK)TABLEOFCONTENTTOC\o"1-2"\h\z\uHYPERLINK3HYPERLINK3HYPERLINK6HYPERLINK15HYPERLINK18HYPERLINKvalueofnotlessthan5tonneswhentestedinaccordancewithB.S.812Part111andmaybedepositedbelowwaterwithouttheassociateduseofcompactionplant.SeiveanalysisasperBS1377:P2methodshouldbe9.2or9.3latestedition.TABLE1FREEDRAININGMATERIALB.S.SIEEVESIIZE%BYWEIIGHTPPASSINNG10mmUpto10005mmNotmoreethann850.600mmmNotemorrethaan450.075mmmNotemorrethaan52.3PLACINGANDCOMPACTIONREQUIREMENTSOnlyapprovedmaterialsshallbeusedintheconstructionofembankmentsfoundationstandingwater.Intheformationoftheembankmentfoundationitisstrictlyforbiddentopushtheexcavatedmaterialsfromthesideoftheroadtotheembankmentfoundationbymeansofbulldozers.Thefillmaterialshallbedeliveredandspreadinlayersnotexceeding25cmcompactedthickness.Thelayersoffillshallbegraded,leveled,pulverizedandmixed,withwateraddedasnecessary,toensurehomogeneousconditionsthroughthefulldepthoftheuncompactedlayer.Forfielddensitytestingrefertospecificationsubsection2/19.Thecompacteddensityofthefillshallbeequaltoorgreaterthan95(ninetyfive)percentoftheMaximumDryDensityasdeterminedbyBS1377Part4(method3.5or3.6).Allslopes,linesandgradesshallbetrue,correct,andaccurateandaccordingtothosedirectedandapprovedbytheEngineer.The"earthworksformationlevel"inembankmentsshallbeaccuratetotheauthorisedprofilegradetoplusone(1)cmorminustwo(2)centimetresand,the'topofimprovedsubgrade'level,plusorminusone(1)centimetrefor3locationsmaximumeach100minterval.Selectedmaterialshallbeplacedwhereverrequired.WherediscrepanciesarefoundintheworkCHECshallmakenecessarycorrectionsinamannerapprovedbytheEngineer.2.4MOISTURECONTROLREQUIREMENTSWhenthemoisturecontentoftheembankmentsoildoesnotfallwithin+3%oftheoptimummoisturecontent,watershallbeaddedandthoroughlymixedintothesoil,byapprovedmethodsorthematerialshallbeaerated,whicheverisneededtoadjustthesoiltothepropermoisturecontent.Theamountofwatertobeaddedshallbeonlythatamountthatwill,asdeterminedbytheEngineerbyfieldtests,provideamoisturecontentinthesoilwithintherequiredrangeplusareasonableamounttocompensateforevaporationandotherunavoidablelosses.WateraddedinexcessofthisamountshallbeconsideredasexcesswaterandmustberemovedbyaerationorothersuitablemeansasdirectedbytheEngineer.Satisfactorymethodsandsufficientequipmentshallbeusedforthefurnishingandhandlingofthewatersothattherewillbenounduelossduetoevaporationorwaste.Ifwaterisaddedtocutareasorborrowpits,thesurfaceoftheareasorpitsshallbemaintainedinsuchamannerthatwillpreventunduelossofmoistureandsegregation.Useofsalinewaterforearthworkswillonlybepermittedifthepercentageofwatersolublesaltsinthecompactedfilldoesnotexceed3%byweightofdrysoil.Forsubgradematerialmoisturerangerefertosubclause2/ROCKFILLWhereembankmentstobecompactedareformedofmaterialconsistingpredominantlyofrockfragmentsofsuchsizethatthematerialcannotbeplacedinlayersofthethicknessprescribedwithoutcrushing,pulverisingorfurtherbreakingdownthepiecesresultingfromnormalexcavationmethods,thematerialmaybeplacedintheembankmentinlayersnotexceedingathicknesstwicetheaveragesizeofthelargerrocks,exceptthatnolayershallexceed600mmofloosemeasurement.Materialsshallbecarefullyplacedsothatalllargestoneswillbewelldistributedandthevoidscompletelyfilledwithsmallerearth,sandorgraveltoformasolidembankment.Eachlayershallbebladedorlevelledwithmotorgrader,bulldozerorsimilarequipmentcapableofshiftingandformingthelayerintoaneatandorderlycondition.No.rockslargerthaneighty(80)mminanydimensionshallbeplacedinthetoponehundredandfifty(150)mmoftheembankmentunlessotherwisenotedonthedrawings.ConformancetotheseprovisionsandcompactioninamannerandtoapointofconsolidationapprovedbytheEngineerwillbeconsideredasfulfilmentoftherequirementsforthetypeofcompactionshownonthedrawings.Normally,compactiontestswillnotbeperformedintheseareasbuttheEngineerreservestherighttocompactioninsomeothermannerifhedeemsatestnecessarytoensureconsolidation.EachlayermustbeapprovedbytheEngineerbeforethenextlayerisplaced.Embankments,whichareformedofmaterialsthatcontainrockbutalsosufficientcompatiblematerialotherthanrockorotherhardmaterialtomakerollingfeasible,shallbeplacedandcompactedinthemannerandtothepointofconsolidationapprovedbytheEngineer.MoistureshallbeaddedasdirectedbytheEngineer.CompactiontestswillbemadewherevertheEngineerdeterminestheyarefeasibleandnecessary.EachlayermustbeapprovedbytheEngineerbeforethenextlayerisplaced.2.6TESTINGTESTINGMETHODSAmoisturedensitytestinaccordancewithBS1377Part4(method3.5or3.6)willbemadeforeachtypeofsoiltobeusedintheconstructionoftheworktodeterminetheMaximumDryDensity,theOptimumMoistureContentandtheMoistureRangerequiredofthesoilforsatisfactorycompaction.TheFieldDensityandactualMoistureContentofthecompactedembankmentshallbedeterminedbyfieldtestsaccordingtoBS1377Part9(method2.1or2.2)MINIMUMTESTREQUIREMENTSForCHEC'sgeneralguidance,thefollowingtestswillberequiredpriortouse,andduringtheconstructionoftheembankmentandofthesubgrade.3.1GeneralConcreteworkwillconsistoffurnishingallmaterialsandconstructingstructuresoftheforms,shapesanddimensionsshownontheDrawingsorasdirectedinaccordancewiththedetailsshownontheDrawings.3.2MATERIALS3.2.1 CementSULPHATERESISTINGCEMENTSulphateResistingCementwillcomplywithBS4027orASTMC150Type5.Inadditionthecementwillcomplywiththefollowing:Theacidsolublealkalilevelmeasuredas(Na20+0.658K20)willnotexceed0.6%byweightdeterminedinaccordancewithBSEN196
P2(95).Theheatofhydrationwillnotexceed290KJ/Kgat7dayswhentestedinaccordancewithBS4550:Part3Section3.8.Thespecificsurfacewillbenotgreaterthan375m2/kgandnotlessthan280m2/kgwhentestedinaccordancewithBSEN196:Part6.a.Cementwillbedeliveredtositeinbulk,orwiththeEngineer'sapproval,maybesuppliedinsealedbags,whichwillbearthemanufacturer’snameandthedateofmanufacture.Acopyofthemanufacturer’sbatchtestcertificateandcertificateofguaranteewillaccompanyeachconsignment.b.Eachconsignmentofcementwillbekeptseparate,identifiedandusedinorderofdelivery.c.Anyconsignmentnotusedwithin2monthsfromthedateofmanufacturewillnotbeallowedtobeusedintheworks.d.OnebrandonlyofcementasapprovedbytheEngineerwillbeusedthroughouttheworksunlessotherwiseauthorisedbytheEngineerinwriting.FineAggregateforConcreteandMortarThegradationoffineaggregatewillbeinaccordancewithBS882latesteditionexcludinggradingdesignationF.FineAggregatewillbecleansharpnaturaland/orcrushedsandandwillbewithinBS882zonescandmonly.CHECwillmechanicallywashaggregatetoremovesaltsandotherimpuritiesinordertomeettherequirementspecified.CoarseAggregateforConcreteCoarseaggregatewillbepreparedassinglesizedaggregateandblendedtoproducenormalsizegrading.ThecombinedgradingwillbewithintheappropriategradinglimitsgiveninBS882.Aggregatesthataredeleteriouslyreactivewiththealkalisinthecementinanamountsufficienttocauseexcessiveexpansionofconcretewillnotbeused.CHECwillmechanicallywashaggregatetoremovesaltsandotherimpuritiesinordertomeettherequirementspecified.3.2.4 COMBINEDAGGREGATEApprovedcoarseaggregateandfineaggregateineachbatchwillbecombinedinproportionsasspecifiedinBS882andasapprovedbytheEngineer.However,innocasewillmaterialspassingthe0.075mm,sieveexceedthree(3)percentbyweightofthecombinedaggregate.Thecombinedaggregategradationusedintheworkwillbeasspecified,exceptwhenotherwiseapprovedordirectedbytheEngineer.ChangesfromgradationtoanotherwillnotbemadeduringprogressoftheworkunlessapprovedbytheEngineer.WATERCHECwillmakehisownarrangementandobtainapprovalforthesupplyofwater.Themixingwatershouldbeclear,apparentlycleanandfreefrommatterharmfultoconcreteinitsfreshorhardenedstate.Potablewatercanbeused.Thetemperatureofwaterforconcreteshouldnotbelessthan5degreeCelsiusnormore25degreeCelsius.Watermaybecooledtonotlessthan5degreeCelsiusbythegradualadditionofchilledwateroricebutonmixing,noiceparticlesshouldbepresentinthemix.Alternatively,flakedicemaybeused.Waterforcuringconcretewillnotcontainimpuritiesinsufficientamountstocausediscolourationoftheconcrete.SourcesofWaterwillbemaintainedatsuchdepthandthewaterwillbewithdrawninsuchamannerastoexcludesilt,mud,grassandotherforeignmatter.TESTINGAllconcrete,aggregate,cementandwaterwillbesampledandtestedduringconstructionasfrequentlyasdeemednecessarybytheEngineer.AlltestsampleswillbesuppliedbyCHECathisexpense.SampleswillbeobtainedinaccordancewithBS812,BS3148,BS1881andBSEN196.TestingwillbeatthefrequenciesstatedintheSpecificationsorrelevantstandards.AllsamplingwillbecarriedoutbytheEngineer.TRIALMIXESNostructuralconcreteshallbeplacedintheworksuntiltherelevantmixhasbeenapprovedbytheengineer.CHECwill,atleast35daysbeforethecommencementofconcreting,havetrialmixesprepareandtestedinalaboratorytobeapprovedbytheengineer.Whenthemixhasbeenapproved,novariationsshallbemadeintheproportions,theoriginalsourceofthelatterwithouttheconsentoftheengineerwhomayrequirefurtherteststobemade.Theengineermayalsorequirefieldtrialstobemadeonthesitebyfillingtrialmouldstoconfirmthesuitabilityofthemixfortheworks.Inthesetest,thetypeofplantusedformixing,themethodofcompactionused,andtheformworkfacetothemouldshallbesimilarinallrespectstothoseintendedforuseintheworks.WhenCHECintendtopurchasefactorymadeprecastconcreteunits,theengineermaydispensewithtrialmixesandlaboratorytests,providedthatevidenceisgivenwhichsatisfieshimthatthefactoryregularlyproducesconcrete,whichcomplieswiththeSpecification.Theevidenceshallincludedetailofmixproportions,watercementratio,workabilityandstrengthobtainedat7and28days. WORKABILITYWorkabilitywillbeassessedbythefollowingteststherequirementsforwhichwillbeasspecifiedelsewhereinthedocuments.SlumptestwillbeperformedaccordingtoBS1881Part102CompactionfactorwillbeperformedaccordingtoBS1881Part103.VebetimewillbeperformedaccordingtoBS1881Part104FlowtestwillbeperformedaccordingtoBS1881Part105. COMPRESSIONTEST TheCompressiontestswillbeperformedoncubes150x150x150mmasdescribedinBS1881Part116.Sampling,makingtestcubesandcuringofcubeswillbeinaccordwithBS1881Parts101,108and111respectively.3.4FORMWORK3.4.1 General Formworkwillineveryrespectbeadaptedtothestructureandtherequiredsurfacefinishoftheconcrete.Itwillincludealltemporarymouldsforformingtheconcretetotherequiredshapeandfinishandforthesupportofsuchmoulds.Itwillbefixedinperfectalignmentandsecurelyledgedandbracedsoastobeabletowithstand,withoutdisplacementdeflectionormovementofanykind,theweightoftheconstructionandthemovementofpersonsmaterialsandplant.Jointswillbecloseenoughtopreventtheleakageofliquidandfinematerialsfromtheconcrete.TheEngineer'sRepresentativemayatanytimerequirethepriorsubmissionforapprovalofCHEC'sproposalsfordesignandconstructionofformworkincludingsupports.Theformworkwillbeconstructedtopermititsremovalwithoutdamagetotheconcrete.3.4.2 SpacingBlocksandTemporaryConstructionTies Internalspacingblocksandconstructiontieswillbeavoidedasfaras,intheEngineer'sRepresentativeopinion,possibleandpracticable.Whereitisintendedthatthespacingblocksorconstructiontieswillberemovedwhetherbeforeoraftertheconcretehasset,themakinggoodoftheconcretewillbesubjecttotheEngineer'sRepresentative'sapproval.Theremovaloftheblocksortiesmustnotjeopardisethestabilityoftheconstruction.If,withtheapprovaloftheEngineer'sRepresentative,thespacingblocksandconstructiontiesareallowedtoremainintheconcretethentheywillbeofsuchmaterialandofsuchqualitythattheydonotprejudicethestrengthofthework. Concretespacingblockswillbemadeofconcreteatleastequalinqualitytothemainconcrete.Metaltieswillbepositionedsuchthattheydonotcomeintocontactwithanyofthereinforcementorfittingsandnopartofthetiewillbepermanentlyembeddedintheconcretenearerthan5cmtotheexteriorsurfaceoftheconcrete. Allholeswillbefilledwithnon-shrinkgrant.3.4.3 SlabFormsWheretimberisusedforthesoffitsofslabs,theboardswillbeplacedandlaidperfectlytruewithclosejointstopreventthepercolationofliquidorfinesfromtheconcrete.Tongueandgrooveplankswillbeusedifspecified.Allrequisitebearerandstrutswillbeadjustedinpositionandplacedwherenecessaryonbearersasspecifiedinthecaseofbeamforms.3.4.4 TypeofFormwork ExposedConcreteFacesAllconcretefaceswillbeleftasstruckwithafairface,truetolinefinish.Inordertohavethefinishasitwillbeformed,approvedbytheEngineer,testpiecesof1sq.mverticalpanel25cmthickwillbecast.AfterapprovaltheywillberetainedinpositionuntiltheconcreteworkshavebeencompletedthentheywillbedemolishedandremovedfromtheWorks.Aftercarefulinspection,allsuperfluousfinesandsimilarprojectionswillbecarefullyremoved.Norenderorotherappliedfinishwillbeusedtoobtainafairfacetotheconcrete.AllconcretefacestobeexposedinthefinishedworkswillbeadequatelyprotectedagainstdamageandsurfacestainingduringtheexecutionoftheWorks.3.4.2 PreparationofFormworkforConcretingImmediatelybeforetheconcreteisdeposited,theformworkwillbethoroughlycleanedoutandfreedfromsawdust,shavings,wirecuttings,dust,sand,clayandallotherdeleteriousandextraneousmaterials.Temporaryopeningswillbeprovidedintheformworktofacilitatethiswork.Theinsidesurfacesoftheformworkwill,immediatelypriortofinalerection,becoatedwithmouldoil.Themouldoilwillbeofapprovedtypeandwillbeapplieduniformlyandthequantitiesusedwillbetheminimumconsistentwithitspurposes.CHECwillensurethatallsteelreinforcementandadjoiningconcretesurfacesarekeptfreeofmouldoil.Allformworkandreinforcementwillbecleanandfreefromstandingwaterimmediatelybeforeplacingconcrete.3.4.3 ApprovalofFormworkbeforeConcretingCHECwillinallcasesrequesttheapprovaloftheformworkbytheEngineer'sRepresentativeinsufficienttimetoallowaninspectiontobemadeandwillnotcommenceconcretinguntilsuchapprovalisobtained.TheperiodbetweenCHEC'srequestforapprovalandhisintentiontocommenceconcretingwillbenotlessthanoneclearnormalworkingdayandtheEngineer'sRepresentativemayrequirealongerperiodif,inhisopinion,theformworkisofsuchcomplexityastorequireit.SuchapprovalwillnotabsolveCHECofhisresponsibilitiesundertheContract.3.4.4 RemovalofFormwork Allformworkswillbestruckwithoutjarringtheconcreteorsubjectingthesametosuddenshock. Beforestrikinganyformwork,CHECwillsatisfyhimselfthattheconcreteissufficientlyhardenedtobearitsownloadandanyotherloadsthatmaybeplacedonit. Noformworkistoberemoved,ifintheopinionoftheEngineer'sRepresentative,theconcretehasnotsetsufficiently. ApprovaloftheEngineer'sRepresentativewillnotabsolveCHECofhisresponsibilitiesundertheContract.Subjecttotheaboveandtheconcretetestcuberesults,theminimumperiodsfortheremovalofformworkgenerallyareasfollows: Sidesofbeams,wallsandcolumns - 2days Soffitsofbeamsandslabs(propsleftin) - 7days Removalofprops(beamsandslabs) -14days Soffitsofprecastbeams - 7days (ThesetimesmaybereducedonlywiththewrittenapprovaloftheEngineer) Inthecaseofthespecialtypesofformwork,strikingtimesaretobeapprovedbytheEngineer.Ifabeamslabisrequiredtosupportaconstructionloadinexcessofitsdesignload,thebeamorslabistobeproppeduntilthesupportedconstructionhasreachedtheagewhentheproppingmayberemoved.NosupportsfortheshutteringmaybeleftinthefinishedconcretewithoutthewrittenpermissionoftheEngineer.3.4.5 ConcreteBelowGround AllconcreteplacedbelowgroundlevelwillhaveaminimumprotectiontoitsoutsidefaceswithabituminousmembraneasperClauseofthisSpecification.3.5REINFFORCEMMENTSSTEEL3.5.1 GGeneraalALLREINNFORCEEMENT(BARTYPEDESIGGNATIOON'T'')WILLLBEEPOXYYCOATTEDHIIGHYIIELDDDEFORMMEDTYYPE2GRADEE460NN/mm2BARSTOBSS4449..CHECwilllberespoonsiblleforrfurnnishinngreiinforccingssteelinsuufficiientqquantiityanndofthepproperrsizees,leengthssandshapeesshoownonntheDrawiingsfforannygivvensttructuure.3.5.2 MaateriaalSpeecificcationns AllreinnforceementbarswillbbeofadefformeddtypeeinaaccorddancewithBS44449,eexcepttthattplaiinbarrsmayybeuusedwwherespeciificalllyinndicattedonntheDrawiings.PlaiinbarrswilllbeinacccordaancewwithBBS44449. AllsteeelreiinforccementtwilllconfformttotheerequuiremeentsooftheeSpeccificaationssforDeforrmedHHighYYieldSteellBarss,Graade4660Typpe2,unlesssothherwisseshoownonntheDrawiingsoorspeecifieedbytheEEngineeer.EithermmildssteelwhereespeccifieddorccalleddforwillbedeeformeedorplainnbarsscompplyinggwithhASTMMA6155struucturralgrradeoorBS4449orannyequuivaleentNaationaalStaandarddasddirecttedanndappproveddbyttheEnngineeer. TyingwiirewiillbeeNo.116gauugesooftannnealeediroonwirreorNo.118gauugesttainleessstteelwwireoortheeequiivalenntBSspeciificattionffortyyingwwireaandUPPVCcooatedsuitaablefforeppoxyccoateddrebaar. WeldedwwireffabriccwilllbeuusedaasreiinforccementtforconcrretewwhereshownnonttheDrrawinggsanddasddirectted.WWeldeddwireefabrricwiillcoonformmtotthereequireementssofBBS44883. Allreinnforceementwillbbeprootecteedagaainstcorroosionwithafussion-bbondeddepoxxycoaatinginacccordaancewwithtthereequireementssofAASTMAA775/AA775MaandBSS72955.CHECwilllberespoonsiblleforrobtaaininggtheEnginneer’sappprovalltotthestteelbbarsppriortocooatinggcommmencinng.SSuchaapprovvalwiillinnnowwayreelieveeCHECCofhiisressponsiibilittiesuundertheCContraact.CHECwilllfurrnishtothheEnggineerraceertifiicateofcoompliaancefforeaachshhipmenntofcoateedsteeelbaars.TheccertifficateeofccompliiancewillsstatethatrepreesentaativesampllesoffthecoateedbarrshavvebeeentesstedaandthhatthhetesstressultscompllywitththeerequuiremeentsooftheeSpeccificaationss.3.5.3 CConstrructioonofReinfforcemment Steelreeinforrcingwillbbestooredoontimmberppackinngcleearoffthegrounnd.Thhesteeelbaarswiillbeefreeefrommsharrpdefformattions,,rollled-innsilvvers,deeprecesssesoorsurrfacefaultts/bleemisheeswhiichcoouldrresulttiniineffiicienttoriinadeqquatecoatiing.WWhenffixedinthheworrkanddimmeediateelyprriorttoconncretiing,ssteelreinfforcinngwilllbeentirrelyffreeffromlloosemillscalee,loooseruust,ooil,ggreasee,paiint,mmouldoil,andaallottherddeleteerioussandextraaneoussmateerial..Allhookss,bennds,eetc.,unlesssothherwisseshoownonntheDrawiingswwillbbetoBS44466. Beforeoorderiingreeinforrcingsteell,CHEECwilllpreeparebarbbendinngschheduleesathisoowncoostanndsubbmittthemttotheeEngiineerforhhisappprovaal.Baarschheduleeswilllshoowtheeweigghtoffeachhbar,,thetotallweigghtoffeachhbarsizeandtthetootalwweighttofbbars,andbbendinngdiaagramssforbarsinacccordaancewwithBBS44666.TTheleengthofeaachbaarwilllbecalcuulateddinaaccorddancewithBS44466exxceptthatthemminimuumintternallbenddingrradiusswilllbeffourttimesthebbardiiameteer.CHHECwiillallsoprrovideeandsubmiittotheEEngineeerfoorappprovallanyworkiingdrrawinggsaddditionnaltootheContrractDDrawinngswhhichmmaybeefounndneccessarryforrtheproduuctionnofbbarbeendinggscheedulessorfforthhecommpletiionofftheWorkss. TheEngiineer’sappprovallofCCHEC’sworrkingdrawiingsaandbaarbenndingschedduleswilliinnowayrrelievveCHEECofrresponnsibillityfforthhecorrrectnnessoofsucchdraawingssorsscheduules. Steelreeinforrcemenntwilllbebentaccurratelyytottheshhapesandddimenssionsshownnonttheappproveedbarrbenddingllistsordrrawinggs.Baarswiillbeebenttrounndmanndrelssoftthereequisiitediiameteer. SteelreeinforrcemenntwilllbecutaandbeentinnaccoordanccewitthBS4466..Cutttingorbeendinggbyttheappplicaationofheeatissnotpermiitted..WelldingofreeinforrcemenntwilllonllybepermiittedwhenapproovediinwriitingbythheEnggineerr. IfsuchapproovaliisgivventhhenthheworrkmansshipwwillbbeinaccorrdanceewithhBS55135.CHECCwilllsubmmitfuullteechniccaldeetailssofhhisprroposeedproocedurresprriorttoseeekingapprooval.
