It is this that attract
2、s me to civil engineering as a career because although I am aware of the many pressures and demands I would be facing, the sense of achievement and the knowledge that I would be making a difference to the lives of others would be of great personal reward to me! My fascination for engineering started
3、 when I was young, and has only increased since then. I enjoyed playing video and computer games that required planning and strategy. I watched ?Extreme Engineering? when it first aired on the Discovery channel and today I have seen every episode up to season five and am waiting to see the sixth sea
4、son. I have a game called ?West Point Bridge designer? that has taught me about the different properties of each type of bridge and allows me to experiment with different bridge designs as well as using different materials in the most cost effective way possible. Unfortunately for my parents, this f
5、ascination extended into reverse engineering as well and ranged from my toys as a child to unused household items and broken cars and motorcycles as an adolescent. This interest was then nurtured during my schooling and college years - at school learning about the history of art and how the smallest
6、 engineering discoveries led to the biggest architectural breakthroughs, for instance the impact that the arch, concrete and the dome had on Ancient Roman and proceeding architecture. In college I thoroughly enjoyed mathematics and physics particularly in the applied sections, and although my grades
7、 do not reflect this, a big portion of my gap year has already been spent on preparation towards of their improvement. As well as a lot of revision, my gap year so far has been a wealth of new experiences and challenges from things as silly as learning to juggle and ride a unicycle to teaching mysel
8、f to play the keyboard and getting my motorcycle license. I also had a job as a general labourer working under the site manager on a building site where I worked alongside the tradesmen and occasionally the architect, thereby gaining valuable experience in keeping to the strict requirements of worki
9、ng to time schedules and regulations, planning, problem solving and keeping quality of work up and expenses down. Previous to that I worked at my local supermarket as a general assistant and was eventually promoted to a team leader. I was responsible for liaising with my managers and keeping them up
10、 to date with what was happening around the store and making sure my staff knew what was expected of them throughout their shifts as well as doing my own work around the store. This taught me how to deal with people in a variety of situations in a polite and professional manner while also greatly im
11、proving my communicational and social skills. Being born and raised in South Africa and having made the transition and adaptation to English culture and way of life with ease, I have no doubt I would adapt in much the same way to university life. Also I think it is important that I have witnessed th
12、e differences in infrastructure between developed and third world countries and their respective effects on the surrounding populations and feel I could use this knowledge to my advantage. I am a very active person and sport has always been a big part of my life. In high school I captained my cricke
13、t and rugby teams and was part of the swimming, tennis and athletics teams and represented my home province in cricket, athletics and surfing. Living over here I am a member of the local cricket and rugby club; I take part in the occasional darts and pool tournaments and am a regular at the local he
14、alth centre. All of this means I have a lot of experience in performing under pressure, pushing myself and working well as a team. By the end of my gap year I hope to have: fulfilled my travelling plans where I hope to go backpacking in Asia as I think it will be an awe-inspiring and eye opening exp
15、erience; have learnt many more new skills and gained more relevant work experience; and hopefully begin a journey into becoming a part of the great and prolific industry of ingenuity and creativity that is the world of engineering. 16、年的學(xué)分都需要達(dá)標(biāo),才有資格參加考試,申請(qǐng)畢業(yè)的要求之一,就是在讀學(xué)生獲取了合格的學(xué)術(shù)數(shù)量。 所以大家去德國(guó)讀書,是不會(huì)有人告訴你一個(gè)固定的學(xué)習(xí)時(shí)長(zhǎng)的,因?yàn)樾迣W(xué)分雖然每年有固定的的要求,但是大家是可以進(jìn)行多修的,只要自己的時(shí)間能夠安置好,這樣可以提前畢業(yè)。 二、學(xué)習(xí)模式 對(duì)學(xué)生的授課,不僅僅有傳統(tǒng)的大課堂(Vorlesung),還會(huì)安置有練習(xí)課(Uebung)和討論課(Seminar),幫助學(xué)生之間進(jìn)行友好的交流,技能的晉升提供不錯(cuò)的場(chǎng)地和環(huán)境,師生交流也更加平等。 很多時(shí)候課題是固定的,但是分組以后不同的小組之間,會(huì)產(chǎn)生不同的靈感,在研究的時(shí)候也會(huì)得出不同的結(jié)果,側(cè)重點(diǎn)會(huì)有差異,這樣是很有助
17、于大家的啟發(fā)性思維的。 三、畢業(yè)比率 德國(guó)實(shí)行的是寬進(jìn)嚴(yán)出的政策,即便是進(jìn)入,入學(xué)的門檻也不會(huì)很高,大家只要能夠符合要求而且提交申請(qǐng)的時(shí)間比較靠前名額還足夠的話,就可以直接進(jìn)入正式的學(xué)習(xí)。 但是要想畢業(yè),則需要滿足不同方面的要求,必須要全部合格才有申請(qǐng)畢業(yè)的資格,所以從畢業(yè)率上來(lái)對(duì)比,德國(guó)是要比國(guó)內(nèi)低得多的,這就要求大家在學(xué)校內(nèi)認(rèn)真的對(duì)待、努力的學(xué)習(xí)。 四、學(xué)校建設(shè) 大部分的德國(guó)高校,是沒有圍墻的,教學(xué)樓也很少聚集在一起,可能會(huì)分布在城市的不同角落,這是因?yàn)閷?duì)待教育,德國(guó)更注重和社會(huì)的溝通和交流。 所以在德國(guó),我們可以很清晰的感受到大學(xué)城的氛圍;但這也對(duì)留學(xué)生提出了更高的自律性要求,沒有統(tǒng)一的
18、管理,大家也會(huì)有更多的時(shí)間可以進(jìn)行自由的安置。 德國(guó)留學(xué)尋找住房常見方式 1、申請(qǐng)學(xué)生宿舍 學(xué)生宿舍費(fèi)用低廉、房屋狀況良好、距離學(xué)校近,而且利于同齡人溝通,故而通常是留學(xué)生歡迎的住房形式。據(jù)統(tǒng)計(jì),在德國(guó)大學(xué)生服務(wù)社所提供的約18.3萬(wàn)間宿舍中,留學(xué)生的居住比率超過了40%。然而,學(xué)生宿舍的建設(shè)速度遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不及學(xué)生數(shù)量的增長(zhǎng)速度,在“僧多粥少”的情況下,申請(qǐng)到學(xué)生宿舍常常需要等待幾個(gè)月,一些受歡迎的房型如套房等,則需要等待更長(zhǎng)的時(shí)間。 2、在線預(yù)訂住房 除了大學(xué)生服務(wù)社外,一些教會(huì)機(jī)構(gòu)或基金會(huì)也為學(xué)生建造了性價(jià)比很高的住處。這種住處通常基本設(shè)施齊全,生活和交通都比較便捷,并且價(jià)格適中。所有滿足條件的人都可以在線預(yù)訂,預(yù)訂成功后有3天的時(shí)間考慮是否入住,如果同意則需要在此期間支付押金和部分月租。與學(xué)生宿舍相同的是,這種住處常常供不應(yīng)求,只能在有空缺時(shí)完成預(yù)訂。此外,柏林類似的大型學(xué)生公寓還有位于斯拉赫滕湖的“學(xué)生村”,它原名為“柏林自由大學(xué)學(xué)生村”。 3、租住私房 私房的房型多樣,價(jià)格不等。尋找私房可以借助所在城市的地方性報(bào)紙上的廣告或者借助專業(yè)網(wǎng)站。流程是先明確自己想要的住房,給房東寫郵件或打電話介紹自己的情況,然后預(yù)約時(shí)間看房。如果滿意,則告
