6、your own process· How to respond effectively to various rhetorical situations and in various genres. · How to use conventions such as format, structure, and tone appropriate for the chosen genre and rhetorical context· That writing is a flexible process involving multiple drafts.·

7、; How to respond critically to written texts, including those of your peers.· How to write researched papers that reflect academic conventions for scholarship, showing an emerging awareness of the persuasive value of selected sources · Strategies for responding to timed-writings, a common

8、form of university discourse.  2. ON THE WEBIn addition to class activity, this course will be using web resources in pursuit of the course objectives.  I have created a supplemental website, hosted on WebCT, that you are required to access at least once between each of our meetings to che

9、ck your WebCT e-mail, to review whats due for the next meeting, review supplemental information, and to access many other links for information to help your writing.   To access the course website on WebCT, go to where you will find the full instructions on how to login to

10、 the website.  Your WebCT ID is your Panther ID, and your initial (default) password is your Panther ID as well. The first time you log into WebCT, you will be required to change your password.  To look up your Panther ID number, go to and click on Get Your Panther ID.

13、academic misconduct.二、教學基本要求1. ATTENDANCEAttendance is absolutely required and will be taken for every meeting; class should only be missed in the case of emergencies and sickness. YOUR FINAL GRADE IN THE COURSE WILL BE REDUCED ½ GRADE FOR EACH ABSENCE AFTER THREE ABSENCES. Per the FIU Composit

14、ion department policies, more than six absences will result in a failing grade for the course.  Missed assignments resulting from an absence may only be made up if proper evidence is presented for the absence, such as a signed doctors note.  2. GRADING You must receive a “C” grade or highe

16、ill be four major essay assignments during the semester. For each essay, you will write three drafts, all of which should be turned in as a portfolio at the beginning of class on the due date. Portfolios should include all invention work, drafts, notes, and peer reviews involved in the creation of t

17、he final product. I will then hand back the portfolio with my comments, while the final grade for the essay will be posted on .At the end of the semester, I will allow you to revise the first three essays. If the revisions show significant improvement, you will get a higher grade which will replace

18、the original grade. We will discuss revision throughout the semester.There will also be smaller writing assignments assigned throughout the semester.  LATE ESSAY ASSIGNMENTSAll assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date. The letter grade will be reduced ½ grade for every

19、 day an essay final draft is late, and the reduced grade will carry over into your final portfolio. For example, if you turn in an A paper a day late, it will be reduced to a B+, and can not be revised for an A for the final portfolio. Turning in the paper to me on the due date, but after a class ha

20、s ended, will be considered one day late. .  FAILURE TO TURN IN ANY ONE OF THE FOUR MAJOR ESSAYS WILL RESULT IN FAILING THE COURSE.  4. JOURNALYou should bring your journal to every class, as we will begin most classes during the semester with about ten minutes of writing reflections on th

21、e readings, invention strategies, or other subjects for which I will provide prompts.  Journals will be collected with your portfolio when each major essay is due, and checked to confirm all the assigned entries, as well as the thought and effort put into them.  Since tardiness may lead to

22、 a missed journal entry, it will affect your journal grade.5. PARTICIPATIONYour thoughts are needed in our discussions!  Group discussion is the cornerstone of this class, as we will be learning from each other.  Points for participation will be granted based on your willingness to take part in in-class discussions, workshops, and group, individual, or classroom exercises.  Attendance (including excessive tardiness) affects your participation grade as well.6.
