In1954,lifemagazinepublished(刊登)areportaboutschoolchildrenwhocouldnot
read.Thereportsaidmanychildren'sbookswerenotinteresting.DoctorSeussstrongly
hopedtohelpchildrenanddecidedtowritebooksthatwereinterestingandeasyto
read.Heusedwordswiththesameendingsound,likefishandwish.Hedidnotreceive
traininginart.Yet,hedrewthepicturesformostofhisbooks.
In1957,Dr.SeusswroteTheCatintheHat.Heusedlessthan230wordstowrite
thebookandevenasix-year-oldshouldbeabletoreadit.Itwasafunstoryand
easytoread.Childrenlovedit.Theirparentslovedit,too.Todayitisstillone
ofthestoriestheylikebest.ThesuccessofTheCatintheHatmadehimwanttowrite
morebooksforchildren.In1960,hewroteabookusinglessthanfiftywords.The
bookiscalledGreenEggsandHam.
In1984,DoctorSeusswonaPulitzerPrize(普利策獎).Hewashonoredforthe
educationandenjoymenthisbooksprovidedAmericanchildrenandtheirparents.
Hediedattheageof87,buthisinfluenceremains.Mi11ionsofhisbookshave
beensoldworldwide.PeoplesayhisbookshelpedchangethewayAmericanchiIdren
